When you reach the point you need, just let go of the mouse. Then, click on the ruler and drag onto your image – this will pull a guide out. If you don’t have them already, you can do it in the menu View, Rulers.
To draw a guide you need to have the rulers activated in Photoshop. If you’re doing it arbitrarily, then you can skip this step and move directly to the next.
If you want to rotate an image to straighten it, then you’re going to need a guide. If you want to save some storage space and you’re satisfied with the final result, you can go to the menu Layer, Flatten Image. If you want to save your composite with the separate layers in a way that it remains editable, I suggest you save it as a PSD file. This will create a more realistic effect.
